VIVA CRISTO REY

Last November 21, 2010 the ICST Community joined the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia in the celebration of the Christ the King. The celebration of Christ the King marks the end of the liturgical year and the beginning of the Church Calendar.

This year’s celebration of the Christ the King was hosted by the Parishes of Sto. Niño de Prague in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur and Immaculate Conception in Quirino, Ilocos Sur. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist started at 2:30 in the afternoon presided over by Rev. Msgr. David William Antonio, Vicar General of Nueva Segovia in lieu of Most Rev. Archbishop Ernesto A. Salgado who was then in Rome for the “Ad Limina” Visit. Among those who were present were the priests of the Archdiocese and people from different parishes.

The celebration was very meaningful for the culture of the place was integrated. In the liturgy, mixed Cordillera and Ilocano cultural dances were performed before the procession and during the offering of gifts. The readings were proclaimed through “Ogaya”, a tone peculiar to the mountain provinces.

The Cristo Ari Fiesta has always been the biggest annual celebration in Nueva Segovia. Although this year’s celebration was held in the interior town of Cervantes, the difficulty of reaching the parish was no deterrent for the crowd from various parishes of the archdiocese who came to participate in the liturgical event.  It was, indeed, an affirmation of Nueva Segovia’s firm belief and fidelity to Jesus Christ, King of Kings.

Apostolate Festival 2010

On November 27-28, 2010, the ICST community held its annual Apostolate Festival with the theme “Preserving the Gift of Creation”. Among the schools that were present were: St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur (SPCIS), Ilocos Sur National High School (ISNHS), Vigan National High School East (VNHSE), and Vigan National High School West (VNHSW).

Day 1 was devoted to a mini-sportsfest where the different groups proved their skills in various games. This was also the time to remind the participants of who and what they should be toward creation. With the presentations, it only proved that they have understood what it meant in preserving the gift of creation. There were those who sung and there were also those who danced with the message integrated.

The following day, November 28, 2010, was devoted to a Medical-Dental Mission at Brgy. San Pedro, Vigan City.  The Eucharistic celebration held at the barangay chapel and presided by Rev. Fr. Nick Vaquilar preceded the mission. About 150 residents were benefited in the said Medical-Dental Mission. The ICST seminarians took the initiative to have this Medical-Dental Mission and it was well appreciated by the people. Truly it was a very meaningful Apostolate Festival.

ICST Holds Feast Day

December 8 is one of the special days for the ICST community. It is the seminary’s fiesta on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of the seminary. Last December 8, 2010, the ICST made this day special through holding different activities.

Carrying different images of the Blessed Mother, the community had a “Walk with Mary” in the morning, a pilgrimage to Nuestra Señora de Caridad at St. Augustine Parish in Bantay, Ilocos Sur. The seminarians prayed the rosary from ICST to Bantay in honor of the Blessed Mother.

In the evening, a mass was concelebrated by the ICST Fathers led by Rev. Fr. Raymundo de Guzman. Fr. De Guzman emphasized in his homily the Immaculate Conception, a privilege given to the Blessed Virgin Mary being free from original sin from birth, which should be an inspiration to everyone in resisting sin.

After the mass, a program was prepared for the Benefactors of ICST. The different formation communities and the formators entertained the visitors with songs and dances. The Benefactors’ Night is annually held on the feast of ICST as a way of expressing gratitude to the benefactors for the invaluable support they render to the seminary.
