 Word Alive Biblical Institute (WABI) 2011
John Paul I Biblical Center is the Regional Center for the Biblical Apostolate in Northern Luzon. It is a venue for biblical-pastoral training and exchange of experiences. It is pastoral in nature and orientation,
owned by and an agency of the Northern Luzon Bishops, Inc. for the promotion
    and coordination of the Biblical Apostolate primarily in their ecclesiastical
    jurisdictions;
regulated by the resolutions of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines
    (CBCP) concerning the Biblical Apostolate;
committed in cooperation with the Catholic Biblical Federation (CBF) of which it is
    an Associate Member, to the implementation of the directives of Vatican II and
    other ecclesiastical documents concerning the pastoral use of sacred scriptures.

The biblical-pastoral efforts of John Paul I Biblical Center aim in particular at:

1. Evangelization through the scriptures
    a. by making the Sacred Scriptures and other biblical materials easily accessible to
        all Christian faithful
    b. in order

to strengthen the faith of the individual believers as a response to the
    Word,
to build truly Christian communities based on the Word of God and thus
    to
cooperate towards a new surge of spiritual vitality in the Church from
    an intensified veneration of God's Word.
2. Ongoing formation of
    a. "Ministers of the Word" namely: Priests, religious, seminarians, catechists, lay
        leaders, youth leaders, teachers, facilitators of Bible Sharing groups and all
        other pastoral agents are in need of adequate and continuous formation in
        order to be ever better prepared to provide effectively the nourishment of the
        Scriptures to the People of God.
    b. "Gospel-inspired lay people" with a special attention to the Youth, Indigenous
        peoples and the Family. Only by being deeply imbued themselves with Gospel
        values can they become evangelized and at the same time evangelizing. The
        temporal order / sphere of things can be penetrated and made perfect through
        the Spirit of the Gospel.

VISION

Impelled by the Living Word alive in us and by the intensifying, dehumanizing conditions in the environment, we, the biblical promoters and animators of Northern Luzon, envision a Community of Disciples rooted in the Word of God.

MISSION

We commit ourselves to:

internalize Gospel values for a more intense proclamation of the Living Word
raise the quality of the integral formation and nourishment of Ecclesial Communities
strengthen our networking with institutions, groups and individuals whose
    orientation is similar and supportive to that of Northern Luzon Biblical Pastoral
    Ministry
promote intercultural and inter religious dialogue on the Living Word in the light of
    New Evangelization.

WABI

The Word Alive Biblical Institute (WABI) started in 1991 by John Paul Biblical Center, the service arm of the Bishops in Northern Luzon  for the Biblical-Pastoral Ministry, in close collaboration with the faculty and administration of the Immaculate Conception School of Theology. This is a Trainers’ Training Course in the Biblical-Pastoral Ministry for Lay Ministers of the Word.

PARTICIPANTS

The Course is intended for the LAITY. It is open to:

  • any lay Catholic interested in deepening his/her knowledge of the Word of God - maturing in Christian faith;
  • pastoral agents especially the laity and missionariess to better understand, live and proclaim the Word of God (Verbum Domini # 75);
  • those who want to commit themselves as LAY MINISTERS OF THE WORD;
  • those who are involved in other ministries like BEC, Youth Ministry, Catechetics, Family & Life Apostolate, Social Action, Campus Ministry;
  • those who want to proclaim the Word of God in the light of the call for new evangelization.
REQUIREMENTS
  • The participant should be able to communicate in the English Language.
  • A letter of recommendation from the Parish Priest and/or biblical promoter is needed.
  • The age limit is 60 years (some exceptions are possible).
LEARNING PROCESS

WABI promotes the integral formation approach to learning: biblical Knowledge, formation of Attitudes in Gospel Values and biblical Spirituality, and training on pastoral Skills. The participants are empowered so that they are able to share their learning: to maximize their charism to animate, facilitate, and coordinate team efforts and participation as servant-leaders in the BECs, schools, etc. They are expected to come up with output: tools/modules which they can use later on. The course is deepened and made more meaningful (and relevant) through the participants and formators/facilitators sharing their pastoral experiences from their own cultural backgrounds. It is a stay-in program where formators and participants live together as a community.

FORMATORS/FACILITATORS

The Formators/Facilitators of WABI are a formation team from John Paul I Biblical Pastoral Center and the Immaculate Conception School of Theology, Vigan City. Other members of the team are products of WABI themselves. The team has been involved in community building, pastoral work and formation for a number of years. Other consultants from the CBCP-ECBA, bishops, clergy, religious and lay people who are experts in an area of Biblical Apostolate and Lay Ministry are also invited.

DURATION

The program is designed for two summers (Levels 1 and 2); with two weeks each. A certificate is awarded to the participant after completion of each of the two (2) levels. If the graduate so decides to make a lifetime commitment to the community (local church), the local ordinary and/or the parish priest shall install and commission the candidate as Lay Minister of the Word depending upon the recommendation of the local church (community)
